About Susan

Susan Waxman is an internationally recognized macrobiotic teacher, counselor and health educator. She is also the co-director of and executive chef at The Strengthening Health Institute (SHI) in Philadelphia, PA, a center dedicated to macrobiotic education whose goal is the promotion of personal and planetary health. Widely recognized for her culinary expertise and understanding of the energetic properties of food, she has taught throughout the United States and abroad. Susan’s innovative style and attention to detail shows through in the flavor and healing power of her food.

As a teacher and health educator, Susan has worked with everyone from mothers hoping to improve their families’ eating habits to the cast and crew of the Hollywood movie Standing Ovation to people with serious illnesses.

Before dedicating her life to macrobiotics, Susan worked with children and young adults in the field of social services. She holds degrees in Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Susan is a graduate of  The Kushi Institute and The Strengthening Health Institute.

She also is a level I graduate in Zen Shiatsu.

Susan enjoys spending time with her family and friends, the Philadelphia Phillies, going to concerts, a good bottle of wine, her cowboy boots and well-fitting jeans.
